Chinese Embassy's Statement on the Issue of Falun Gong

Since March this year, Falun Gong has been spreading the rumor that more than 6,000 Falun Gong practitioners were cremated after their organs had been illegally transplanted at a "concentration camp" in Sujiatun Hospital, Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China. Some overseas journalists and foreign diplomats including the US Embassy in Beijing and consulate-general in Shenyang visited the site and confirmed that they found no evidence that the site is being used for any function other than as a normal public hospital.

In order to extricate itself from an awkward position after its lie about "Sujiatun Concentration Camp" has been laid bare, Falun Gong has shifted to concentrate on the so called human organ transplant in China, claiming that the organs of Falun Gong practitioners have been harvested. Subsequently, a few Canadians conducted the so called "independent investigation'' and released a report concluding that the allegation was true. Based on rumors and false allegations, the report is biased and groundless. It claims that one doctor of Sujiatun Hospital "removed the corneas from approximately 2000 Falun Gong prisoners" in two years. It means that he would have to finish three corneas transplantation within one day and everyday without rest. This is an absurd lie which no one with common sense will believe. The authors of the report also have little knowledge of China. In their telephone interview, through the so called "qualified interpreter", they even made some simple mistakes on the location of Chinese cities. For example, the report claims that Qin Huangdao city, located in Hebei province, is in Shandong province, and Wu Han city, located in Hubei province, is in Hunan province. That being said, the truth of the report can not but be called into question.

Human organ transplant is an advance technology in the world. China has adopted a very prudent and responsible attitude on the issue. We have consistently abided by the relevant guiding principles of the World Health Organization endorsed in 1991, prohibiting the sale of human organs and stipulating that donors' written consent must be obtained beforehand and donors are entitled to refuse the donation at the last minute. China has issued a regulation on human organ transplants, explicitly banning the sale of organs and introducing a set of medical standards for organ transplants in an effort to guarantee medical safety and the health of patients.

Falun Gong is an anti-science, anti-humanity and anti-society evil cult which has been banned in China in accordance with law. It uses religion, Qigong or other things as camouflage to brainwash and control the practitioners. It preaches that human can, through psychological meditation, from invisible magic wheels inside their bodies, cure their illness without medical treatment. It spreads Dooms Day theory, boasts that Li Hongzhi, founder of Falun Gong, is the most powerful God, claiming the sole power to foresee and avert the many unseen disasters that threaten the world. It also uses Falun Gong to amass dirty money, and commit economic crimes of tax evasion and money laundering.

Tragedies have happened that resulted in the loss of numerous human lives and serious social disorder in China, as obsessed practitioners died of illness by rejecting medical treatment, committed suicide by cutting open their abdomens to see whether the Wheels were formed, and even murdered their families who tried to persuade them go back to normalcy. The number of people who fell victims to Falun Gong has amounted to more than 1700. To protect the human rights of its fellow citizens and at the request of the majority of the Chinese people, the Chinese government outlawed Falun Gong in July 1999 in accordance with China's Criminal Law and other relevant laws.

Chinese government deals with Falun Gong issue with great caution. Through education and persuasion, more than 99% of the followers to varying degrees have seen through the true nature of Falun Gong and have broken away from the cultist organization. Falun Gong in China has finally crumbled. But its key members including Li Hongzhi himself fled overseas and collaborated with other anti-China elements. They have degenerated into a well-organized, well-funded anti-China political organization against everything from China. They have restored to various means to disrupt and sabotage Sino-Canadian relations by harassing in-coming high level Chinese delegations, filing false lawsuits against Chinese leaders and diplomats in Canada, opposing to the landing of "Great Wall TV Package"(9 Chinese TV Channels) and making troubles in front of the Chinese diplomatic missions across Canada. All that has shown that they are harboring ulterior political motives.

There are about 1.3 million people of Chinese origin who are now working, studying and living in Canada. As far as our knowledge goes, only a fraction of them practice Falun Gong. Falun Gong is by no means the mainstream of the Chinese community in Canada. Nor can it represent the mainstream of Chinese Canadians. The truth is that Falun Gong has very bad reputation among local Chinese communities. We hope that the practitioners would see through the true nature of Falun Gong and come back to healthy and normal life.

Both the Chinese and the Canadians are great peoples. We all believe that cultural diversity is an important driving force for human progress. We sincerely hope that differences in ideology, social systems and developing models should not become obstacles to our relations. We sincerely wish that people in China and Canada will join hands, and, together with peoples of other countries, to create a more harmonious and better world.
