Minister-Counsellor Heng Xiaojun Attends Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese National Day Celebration Held by FOCCO

On September 17th, the Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese National Day Celebration reception was held in the City Hall by the Federation of Ottawa Chinese-Canadian Community Organizations (FOCCO). Minister-Counsellor Heng Xiaojun attended and addressed the gathering. Joseph Day, Canadian Senator, Chandra Arya, Member of Canadian Parliament as well as over two hundred guests of representatives from overseas Chinese community were present at the occasion.

In his speech, Minister-Counsellor Heng introduced great accomplishments achieved in the 68 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China and briefed the guests on the progress and developments of China-Canada relations over the last 47 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. China and Canada are presented with important opportunities to further grow their relations and there is broad space for the bilateral cooperation. He encouraged the Chinese community in Canada to play a greater role of “bridge” and further contribute to Canada’s economic and social development, and China-Canada friendly relations.

Senator Day congratulated China on the 68th anniversary of the National Day, and appreciated the development prospects of China-Canada relations. Arya read out a congratulatory letter from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Geng Tan, Member of Canadian Parliament sent a delegate to read out the congratulatory letter.
