Ambassador Lu Shaye Meets with Speaker of the Senate George Furey of Canada

On January 31st, Ambassador Lu Shaye met at the Parliament Buildings with George Furey, Speaker of the Senate of Canada. Counselor Yang Fan of the Chinese Embassy in Canada, Kai, Counselor on International Affairs at the Office of the Speaker of the Senate of Canada and others were present.

Speaking positively about the development of China-Canada relations, Ambassador Lu noted that parliamentary diplomacy is conducive to promoting understanding and friendship between the two peoples and serves as a major part of the overall China-Canada diplomacy. It is hoped that both sides will make joint efforts to continuously consolidate and facilitate parliamentary exchanges and cooperation between China and Canada.

Furey expressed that developing Canada-China relations is a major task and priority of Canada’s diplomacy. The Senate of Canada is willing to, together with the Chinese side, further intensify parliamentary exchanges to push for the constant development of Canada-China relations.

Both sides also exchanged in-depth views on strengthening bilateral cooperation in education, economy and trade and other fields.
