Ambassador Lu Shaye and His Wife Hold 2018 Spring Festival Reception

On the evening of February 7th, Ambassador Lu Shaye and his wife held 2018 Spring Festival Reception in the Embassy. The snow-covered trees were shining brightly with timely snow swirling around Ottawa. The reception site was decorated with lanterns and festoons and filled with joy. More than 300 people attended the reception including Donald Bobiash, Assistant Deputy Minister of Global Affairs Canada, Sara Taylor, Director General of North Asia and Oceania Bureau of Global Affairs Canada, Senator Joseph A. Day, Members of Parliament Tan Geng and Chen Shengyuan, as well as representatives of Chinese communities, Chinese-funded institutions, overseas Chinese students and media.

Ambassador Lu delivered a warm lunar new year speech and expressed that the successful convening of the 19th CPC National Congress in 2017 launched a new journey for the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, the Chinese people have implemented the new concept of development and further promoted the supply-side structural reform. The growth of economy is higher than expectation and the people have a stronger sense of gain. China has actively promoted the building of a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for mankind, which is widely recognized by the international community. Ambassador Lu spoke positively of the sound momentum of the development of China-Canada relations and thanked the Chinese communities in Canada with a population of more than 1.7 million for their contributions to promoting China-Canada friendship. Ambassador Lu expressed that 2018 is not only the beginning year of comprehensively implementing the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress, but also the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up. The curtain of the Canada-China Year of Tourism has been raised, and it is expected that the exchanges between the people of the two countries will enjoy in-depth development and that China-Canada relations will boast a more prosperous future.

On behalf of the federal government of Canada, Bobiash expressed congratulations on the Spring Festival. He said that Canada-China relations enjoyed vigorous development in 2017, with  frequent exchanges at high level between both countries and constant and in-depth development in practical cooperation across various fields. Canada stands ready to take the 2018 Canada-China Year of Tourism as an opportunity to increase bilateral personnel exchanges and propel bilateral relations for greater development.

During the reception, the Chinese-Canadian artists performed folk dances, Chinese operas and singing, winning applause time and again. The guests tasted Chinese delicacies, greeted each other with lunar new year wishes and jointly wished China-Canada friendship a more beautiful future.
