No Smear Can Erase the Great Achievements in Xinjiang's Human Rights Cause
--Ambassador Cong Peiwu Gives an Interview to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation via Video Link
2021/03/01

On February 26, 2021, Chinese Ambassador to Canada Cong Peiwu gave an interview to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's program Rosemary Barton Live on Xinjiang-related issues via video link.

Ambassador Cong Peiwu said that, some people in Canada and Western countries have been hyping up the lie of the century on Xinjiang-related issues. There is no so-called "genocide" in Xinjiang at all. The so-called "forced labor" and "forced sterilization" in Xinjiang are all rumors and lies fabricated by anti-China forces. From 2010 to 2018, the population of the Uyghurs in Xinjiang increased by 2.55 million, with a growth rate of 25%. "Genocide" is clearly defined in international law, which cannot be pinned to China. The vocational education and training centers set up in Xinjiang in accordance with law are schools. There is no essential difference between the training centers in Xinjiang and the de-radicalization centers in France. The training centers are established to eliminate terrorism and religious extremism, which is fully in line with the principles and spirit of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.

Ambassador Cong Peiwu pointed out that China welcome fair-minded foreigners to visit Xinjiang and learn the real situation there, and also welcome the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to visit Xinjiang. At the same time, we are firmly opposed to interference in China's internal affairs by any country under the pretext of human rights, and to hyping-up the so-called "investigation" in Xinjiang based on the presumption of guilt. The Chinese side is resolute in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and development interests. The Chinese people have the best say on China's human rights situation. Some Western countries, such as Canada and the United States, cannot represent the international community at all. The number of countries in the world that have made positive comments on China's development and human rights achievements far exceeds them. No smear can erase the great achievements in Xinjiang's human rights cause.

Ambassador Cong Peiwu also elaborated on China-Canada relations and other issues.
