Remarks of the Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Canada on Certain Canadian Organization's Baseless Accusation against China
2021/06/05

Recently, a certain Canadian organization tabled a report at the Special Committee on Canada-China Relations, claiming that China “guides and controls an elaborate network of proxies and front organizations to intimidate and co-opt Chinese-Canadians as well as politicians, academics and business leaders”, “harassment and intimidation campaigns are organized by United Front-affiliated community groups, and misinformation is directed against Uyghurs, Tibetans, Taiwanese, pro-democracy Hong Kongers and dissidents from mainland China”. The report also smears and attacks the cooperation between Chinese and Canadian universities. These remarks are arrant nonsense and out of ulterior motives. The Chinese side expresses its firm opposition to it.

China is committed to an independent foreign policy of peace, developing friendly and cooperative relations with other countries on the basis of mutual respect and non-interference.We have never conducted and will never conduct any interference or infiltration against another country. This is not in our genes. On the contrast, it is some western countries that have long been engaging in coercion, espionage and infiltration all over the world. The international community sees this clearly. It was recently disclosed by the media that the US National Security Agency even spies on the leaders of its allies, such as Germany.

China has repeatedly stressed that the nature of China-Canada exchanges and cooperation is mutually beneficial. For quite some time, some people in Canada have been so keen to hype up the so-called “China threat theory”, make an issue out of national security, and do whatever they can to fan up anti-China sentiments and catch eyeballs by smearing and attacking China, which further poisons China-Canada relations. We urge these people to reject the Cold-War mentality and ideological bias, view China’s development and China-Canada relations in a correct and objective light, stop politicizing or stigmatizing the normal bilateral exchanges and cooperation, and refrain from going down the wrong path further.
