Chinese Ambassador Lan Lijun met with Canadian Speaker Milliken

On 12 February, 2009,H.E. Mr. Lan Lijun, Chinese Ambassador to Canada met with the Hon. Peter Milliken, Speaker of the House of Commons in Parliament of Canada. The two sides exchanged in depth their views on China-Canada relations and parliamentary exchanges between the National People’s Congress of China and the Parliament of Canada.

Ambassador Lan conveyed to Speaker Milliken the greetings and best wishes from H. E. Mr. Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China. Speaker Milliken expressed his thanks and asked Ambassador Lan to convey his greetings and best wishes to Chairman Wu Bangguo.

Ambassador Lan said that China attaches importance to the development of the Sino-Canadian relations, and is willing to strengthen dialogues and exchanges, enhance mutual trust and cooperation, properly handle sensitive issues and further improve and develop the bilateral relations with Canada on the basis of mutual respect, equality and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs. Ambassador Lan thanked Speaker Milliken for his support to the development of the friendly bilateral relations over the years and hoped that he will continue to do so in the future.

Speaker Milliken welcomed Ambassador Lan to assume his new office and agreed with Ambassador Lan’s view on the bilateral relations. He also expressed that the Parliament of Canada and himself are committed to the development of Sino-Canadian friendly relations and willing to make positive efforts for this endeavor.
