On April 21, Ambassador Cong Peiwu spoke with the Right Honourable David Johnston, former Governor-General of Canada, on the phone.

Ambassador Cong noted that China and Canada have a great tradition to help each other at trying times. The Chinese side expresses sympathies over the outbreak of the COVID-19 in Canada and is providing the Canadian side with medical supplies and other assistance. The pandemic is the common threat of humankind. China upholds the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind and is willing to work with the international community, including Canada, to fight against the pandemic.

The Right Honourable David Johnston said that it is important for Canada and China to cooperate creatively in responding to the pandemic. The two sides should strengthen coordination and cooperation on global issues such as the prevention and control of infectious diseases.
