Chinese Ambassador Lan Lijun and Mme Gu Langlin Host Reception and Acrobatic Soiree

         On May 13, His Excellency Lan Lijun, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Canada, and Mme Gu Langlin hosted a reception and acrobatic show at the Chinese Embassy for the visiting Nanjing Acrobatic Troupe. Present at the show were Hon. Stockwell Day, Minister of International Trade, Hon. Sheila Copps, former deputy Prime Minister, Ms. Maria Barrados, President of the Public Service Commission, Hon.  Rob Merrifield, Minister of State of Transport, Mr. Thomas d'Aquino, President of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives and over 150 guests from the federal government, parliament, business community, cultural and arts circles and educational institutions.

                         

         Ambassador Lan Lijun briefed the audience about the long history and numerous achievements of the Nanjing Acrobatic Troupe. Highlighted by single hand support, juggling, turning blankets, magic show, stacking ballet and tongue tricks, the show was very warmly received by the audience and won high praise for its variety, subtlety and strong visual impact.

                                                

         Ambassador Lan and Mme Gu had friendly exchanges with the audience before and after the show.

         During its visit to Canada, the Nanjing Acrobatic Troupe also performed during the Tulip Festival in Ottawa.

 

         The show and reception was covered by local Chinese and English newspapers.

 

         Founded in 1957, the Nanjing Acrobatic Troupe is one of the best award-winning acrobatic troupes in China. It has performed in more than 40 countries and regions.
