The Grand Opening of Montreal Chinese Film Festival

August 17th, the 2nd Montreal Chinese Film Festival had its grand opening in the Cinema du Parc of Montreal, QC, Canada.

Zhang Junsai, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Canada, congratulates the opening of the Chinese film festival with his letter. He said, the Montreal Chinese Film Festival provides a window focusing on Chinese film. Here, the Canadian film lovers will enjoy the Chinese films on different subjects and of different styles, revealing Chinese history and culture as well as the current lives and demonstrating the achievements of the recent Chinese film industry’s developments. It has built a bridge for the communication between Chinese film community and Canadian film community. I believe that it will enhance the understanding and friendship between our two people.

Guests attending the evening ceremony of the film festival included Ms. Zhao Jiangping, the Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in Montreal, Ms. Kathleen Weil, the Minister of Immigration and Cultural Communities of Quebec, Ms. Hans Fraikin, the Film Commissioner and the Chief Executive Officer of the Quebec Film and Television Council, and Ms. Helen Fotopulos, the executive committee member of Montreal responsible for the culture, heritage, design and social status of women affairs.

Same as last year, the Montreal Chinese film festival has obtained support from the Film Bureau of the Chinese State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Canada and the the Chinese Consulate General in Montreal. The Premier of Qubec Jean Charest and the Directors General of the Flim Bureau Tong Gang sent their congratulation letters to the film festival too, wishing her a great success. Officials in the Cultural Office of the Chinese Embassy also attended the opening ceremony in Montreal from Ottawa.

From August 17th to 23rd, 9 Chinese films with various subjects and different styles, including A Simple Life, Flying Swords of Dragon Gate, Under the Hawthorn Tree, Love is Not Blind, The Flowers of War, Reign of Assassins, One Mile Above, Love in the Buff, and China 1911, are going to demonstrate the Chinese film's unique character and variety to the audiences. Mr. Wang Xueqi, a famous Chinese movie actor, will come to meet the audiences on August 22nd, when the film Reign of Assassins stared by him is showed.
