Chinese Films Highlighted at Montreal World Film Festival in Canada

On the August 23rd, the 36th Montreal World Film Festival had its grand opening in the Places des Arts of Montreal, Canada. Dignities, including Ms. Christine St-Pierre, the Minister of Culture, Communications and the Status of Women of Quebec Provincial Government, Mr. Lin Difu, the Minister Counsellor of Culture of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Canada, as well as Mr. Serge Losique, the President of the Montreal World Film Festival, the Jury of the Montreal World Film Festival and celebrities from all over the world have attended the opening ceremony and enjoyed the Chinese film "Million Dollar Crocodile", directed by Lin Lisheng, with around 2,000 audiences.

The Montreal World Film Festival was firstly open in 1977 and has been one of the five major film festivals in the world. It focuses on nationality, diversity and artistic quality on its selection of films. The festival this year will display 432 films from 80 countries and regions, among which 110 feature films are world or international premieres.

In the following ten days, a number of Chinese films will be highlighted in the festival, including "Wings"directed by Yang Yazhou and Yang Bo to participate at the World Competition, "Latitude 52"directed by Degenayun and Du Liang to participate at the First Films World Competition, and another dozen to be screened, such as "White Deer Plain" directed by Wang QuanĂ¡n, "Top of the Hill People" directed by Han Wanfeng, "Meet in Pyongyang"co-produced by China and North Korea, "The Legend of Sunnyland", "The Brother", "Be a Mother", "Falling City" and the documentary film "Taste of Body" and so on. Chinese famous film actor, Wang Xueqi, is invited to be the jury. Besides, a China Film Business Week will be held from August 27 to 31 during the film festival, when the China Film Promotion International (CFPI) and China Movie Channel will focus on introducing Chinese films and participating in the exchange with delegations from other countries to the Montreal World Film Festival. It is for the first time in the 36 years history of the Montreal World Film Festival that Chinese films are highlighted to such an extent.

The 36th Montreal World Film Festival will be ended on the September 3rd.
