On September 23, His Excellency Lan Lijun, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Canada and his wife Mme Gu Langlin, hosted a dinner at the official residence for Her Excellency the Right Honorable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada. Also present were Mr. and Mrs. André Desmarais, President and CEO of Power Corporation of Canada and Mr. Xu Bu, Minister Counselor and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Chinese Embassy in Canada.
Ambassador Lan congratulated the Governor General on her recent successful visit to China and expressed appreciation for the Governor General’s efforts in enhancing China-Canada relations within her tenure. Ambassador Lan hoped that Her Excellency will continue to facilitate exchange and cooperation between China and Canada in all fields and play a positive role in developing China-Canada strategic partnership. Ambassador Lan wished Her Excellency greater contribution to world peace and development with her new mandate as UNESCO Special Envoy.
The Governor General recollected with pleasure her visit to China during Shanghai World Expo and acclaimed China’s enormous achievement in its economic and social development. The Governor General again expressed her appreciation for the warm hospitality and thoughtful arrangements of the Chinese side and belief that with the strong ties and friendship between the Chinese and Canadian people and joint efforts from both sides, Canada-China relationship will grow steadily.
The two sides also exchanged views on China’s economy, China-Canada relations and cultural dialogues between the two countries.
