Ambassador Zhang Junsai meets Alberta government officials

On May 9, His Excellency Zhang Junsai, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Canada, met with Honorable Ron Liepert, Minister of Energy, Honorable Cindy Ady, Minister of Tourism, Honorable Iris Evans, Minister of International and Intergovernmental Relations as well as His Worship Stephen Mandel, Mayor of Edmonton and officials from Edmonton City Hall. Ambassador Zhang also attended the official welcoming reception and luncheon hosted by Minister Evans.

During the meetings, Ambassador Zhang spoke highly of China’s cooperation with Alberta and expressed his hope that the two sides will seize the new historic opportunity to fully implement the consensus reached by Chinese and Canadian leaders on two countries’ relations, in order to expand the two sides’ mutually beneficial partnership in energy, trade, investment, agriculture, education, scientific research and environment protection and deepen the friendship between the two peoples.

Ministers and officials expressed their appreciation for Ambassador Zhang’s visit to Alberta and stressed that Alberta values its relations with China and looks forward to strengthening its practical cooperation with China in oil and gas, science, education and environment protection. The Alberta government appreciates China’s granting of ADS to Canada and wishes to see more Chinese tourists in Alberta.

Ambassador Zhang also attended briefings and discussions with senior officials from the Alberta government as well as President and CEO Mr. Ron Gilbertson and staff of Edmonton Economic Development Corporation, where the two sides shared views on ways to expand and deepen exchange and cooperation.
