Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada Meets with Wang Yi
2016/06/08

On June 1, 2016 local time, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada met in Ottawa with Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Justin Trudeau expressed that China has made remarkable achievements in such areas as economy, technology and culture. With rising international status, China is playing a more and more important leading role in global affairs. Regarding China's development as an important opportunity, the new Canadian government is ready to carry forward the fine tradition preserved by successive governments led by the Liberal Party of Canada of actively developing relations with China, and expand communication and cooperation in various fields such as economy and people-to-people and cultural exchange with China, so as to open a new and inspiring era of Canada-China relations. He looks forward to attending the G20 Hangzhou Summit. Canada is willing to work with China to ensure the summit a success and promote world economic growth.

Wang Yi said that the then Pierre Trudeau administration made the important decision to open up China-Canada relations under the complex international situation. The Jean Chretien administration also forged a "golden decade" of bilateral relations together with China. Now the new government led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau devotes itself to inaugurating a new prospect of China-Canada relations, which China highly appreciates. China stands ready to strengthen high-level exchanges with the new government of Canada, and constantly endow new connotations for bilateral strategic partnership. The two sides should expand bilateral trade scale, advance landmark cooperation projects of mutual benefit in such fields as nuclear energy, infrastructure, connectivity, modern agriculture and innovation, promote personnel communication, enhance local exchanges, strengthen cooperation in justice and law enforcement as well as anti-corruption, fugitive repatriation and asset recovery, and maintain coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs, so as to usher China-Canada relations into a new golden era.
